Biobased Passive House in Haarlem

The Biobased Passiefhuis in Haarlem shows how innovative design and natural materials can come together to create a home that is not only beautiful but also energy-efficient and sustainable.

The layout of the house resembles the adjacent halls so that it fits in its surroundings. The bamboo cladding façade continues over the roof while offering outstanding durability and weather resistance. MOSO^® Bamboo X-treme^® Cladding was the ideal choice for this project because it stores large amounts of CO2, helping reduce its environmental impact.
Inside, natural materials enhance comfort and well-being. The warmth of bamboo continues into the interior with MOSO Bamboo Solid Panels and MOSO Bamboo Industriale Flooring.

Smart and sustainable design

Designed by NarrativA, this Passive House is built for ultimate energy efficiency. Thanks to its smart design, it doesn’t need underfloor heating, radiators, or convectors. A small heat pump with heat recovery ventilation provides fresh air with minimal heat and energy loss, while solar panels on the rooftop provide electricity.
Its architecture prioritises daylight and ventilation with large windows and motorised folding shutters. The shutters are covered with Bamboo X-treme Cladding too.

A moss wall, green features, and a pond with natural water filtration further connect the home to nature.
By integrating biophilic elements and renewable materials like bamboo, this passive house not only minimises its environmental footprint but also improves indoor air quality, acoustics, and overall living comfort.
