BDG Architecten designed this fire station in Den Bosch with a facade of Yoroi, a charred MOSO® Bamboo X-treme cladding developed by Zwarthout using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique. The surface is burned to a deep black, a technique that traces back centuries, originally used on cedar in Japan to protect facades without paint or chemical treatment. The result requires very little maintenance and carries a B fire rating, guaranteed for the full lifespan of the cladding thanks to the high density of Bamboo X-treme. A fitting performance for a building that houses fire engines.
