GMB IJhorst

This new office building for GMB in IJhorst incorporates charred cladding in its circular design. Built with a CLT structure and timber-frame façades, the building was designed for disassembly and a minimum GPR sustainability score of 8.0 (Dutch sustainability assessment tool). For the exterior, MOSO^® Bamboo X-treme cladding was used, charred by Zwarthout using the Shou Sugi Ban technique. This controlled charring process gives the boards a deep, textured surface and enhances properties like resistance to weathering, fungi and insects even further. The result is a low-maintenance, long-lasting façade reaching fire class B.
