Godai Pavilion

A project born as an architectural response to the creation of a guest pavilion and pool as an addition to an existing residence in a rural area with a distinct countryside character in Cantabria, Spain. Bamboo was chosen as the main material for the interior and exterior of the pavilion. The solid bamboo flooring MOSO® Bamboo Elite is used as a flooring as well as for the walls, ceilings, doors and kitchen fronts. It adds a warm, high-quality touch to the pavilion. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® was used for the exteriors, as decking around the pool and the pavilion, and as cladding in the form of boards and beams. Large window openings connect the exterior and interior spaces, giving guests an uninterrupted view of the pavilion’s surroundings. The pavilion is named ‘GODAI’, a term used in Japan and in Japanese philosophy to refer to the ‘five elements’: earth, water, fire, wind and emptiness.

"Bamboo, a material with oriental connotations, has become the protagonist of the work due to its excellent qualities: lightness, flexibility, minimal expansion, low density and inertia, great resistance to weather and water, and ease of handling, assembly, and installation."
