Riviera Maya Edition at Kanai is designed as an open-air resort that remains closely connected to its coastal surroundings. Natural ventilation, shaded walkways, and fluid transitions between interior and exterior spaces shape the architectural experience.
Located within a mangrove landscape, where humidity, mould, and salinity are constant factors, the project required a material with proven stability.
MOSO Bamboo X-treme beams and cladding with Trapezium profile were selected for the operable shutters in the lobby and for the overhead beam canopy that shades the circulation routes.
MOSO Bamboo X-treme offers exceptional resistance to humidity, mould, and UV exposure. Its durability and warm, natural tone support both the performance expectations of a tropical hospitality environment and the project’s ambition to minimise environmental impact.
The shutters modulate daylight and provide privacy, while the canopy introduces shade and comfort to the open-air walkways. Together, they contribute to the calm and refined atmosphere that characterises the resort.
Kanai demonstrates how a biobased material can meet the technical challenges of contemporary coastal architecture and enrich its spatial identity. It is one more example of building the future with bamboo.
