The Roofs

“Elix” is nestled on the fringe of the forest within the eco-conscious, car-free, sustainable community of Kerckebosch in Zeist. Here, the natural landscape serves as the guiding principle for the architectural layout. Embracing the essence of sustainability, the housing design is meticulously crafted to harmonize with its surroundings. Utilising bio-based materials, the entire development is consciously constructed with CLT, flax insulation, insulation made from old jeans, hectar flooring, biobased “gravel” (peach bricks) a heat pump, ventilation system, a beautiful MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® façade and more.
Boundaries blur between buildings and nature with Elix, allowing the landscape to flow effortlessly through the hamlet. Bamboo X-treme® blends in beautifully and the Varibo Cladding provides the houses with a wonderful playful effect. As well as this, the Bamboo X-treme® Triple Rhombus used as fencing around the houses gives them a very modern and sleek look.
The residents at Elix are among the first of their kind to live in such an environmentally friendly community with such extensive measures taken to ensure its eco conscious nature. From the shape and placement of the buildings to the communal garden where even edible greenery can be found, Elix is more than your ordinary neighbourhood and really goes that extra step to be as eco friendly as possible.
