Matchbox

Matchbox is the first building in the creative industrial hub of Strijp-S in Eindhoven to be constructed almost entirely from wood. Its name reflects both the building’s compact form and the timber grid that defines its façade. Matchbox offers a vibrant mix of residential, commercial, and office spaces, including ground-floor units for local entrepreneurs, all in keeping with the creative spirit of Strijp-S.

The concrete core of the building is surrounded by timber floors, columns, and beams. The façade combines timber frame construction with MOSO^® Bamboo X-treme closed cladding, a durable material that reaches Fire Class B without the use of expensive and eco-damaging fire retardants. The bamboo cladding not only enhances the building’s natural appearance but also contributes to the negative carbon footprint of the building. Kaan Architects demonstrates how innovative materials and thoughtful design can come together to create affordable, high-quality living and working spaces, while actively contributing to climate goals.
