Amsterdam is building a new island in the IJmeer. Strandeiland, part of the IJburg archipel, will eventually count around 8,000 homes and more than 20,000 residents once finished. One of the first neighbourhoods going up is the Makerskade, where SVP Architectuur en Stedenbouw designed 349 modular homes close to the water, a mix of studios and two and three room apartments. The facades contain MOSO® Bamboo X‑treme and Bamboo N-durance cladding, supplied and installed by Awood. No oiling is needed, and the material naturally weathers over time, making it a low-maintenance and durable choice for a neighbourhood exposed to the waterfront.
