Tour Hekla

When Theater aan de Parade opened after a three-year renovation, the architects at NOAHH had managed to create a social space that exudes grandeur while still remaining intimate. Its main hall can host over 900 people for an evening of theatre. The warm, natural look of the Bamboo Supreme flooring complements the champagne-coloured seating while its robust nature makes it an excellent option for spaces that welcome large audiences night after night. Over 3,200 m² of Bamboo Supreme flooring is used for the podiums, floors, and staircases of the theatre.
The same material aesthetic continues vertically: the walls are clad in perforated bamboo veneer panels that enhance acoustics and feature a pattern inspired by the leaves of the chestnut trees on the Parade square. Bamboo also extends to the rooftop terrace, offering a magnificent view over the city and St. John’s Cathedral. The low-maintenance Bamboo X-treme decking achieves Fire Class B without the use of expensive, eco-damaging fire retardants. The result is a contemporary theatre where sustainable material use and design come together seamlessly, proving how versatile bamboo can be in modern architecture.
