Charred cladding at KC Meerdijk

Kindcentrum Meerdijk is a unique educational building that combines a primary school and a childcare centre with after-school care in a single, entirely wooden design. The façade is finished with Yoroi bamboo cladding by Zwarthout, a sustainable façade cladding based on MOSO® Bamboo X-treme. This deeply charred bamboo combines a powerful, natural look with high performance and has been specially developed for projects where fire class B is required, such as public buildings and high rise towers.

Yoroi is made from thermally modified bamboo. The solid planks are then charred using a traditional Shou Sugi Ban technique, creating a unique charcoal layer that provides natural fire retardancy without the use of chemicals. Thanks to the innovative Thermo-Density process of Bamboo X-treme, Yoroi offers exceptional durability, stability and a low carbon footprint, making it a future-proof choice for modern public architecture.
