FSC® certification

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is recognized globally as the foremost forestry certification system in the wood industry. FSC® certification is currently available for bamboo, and as the pioneer and leader in the industry, MOSO® provides bamboo products that are FSC® certified.


LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) are the two leading, green building certification programs recognized worldwide.
Choosing and applying MOSO® bamboo products can add various energy credits from BREEAM and LEED.

Nordic Ecolabel certification

The MOSO Bamboo Forest is the first bamboo product certified by the rigorous Nordic Swan Ecolabelling scheme. The Nordic Ecolabel is the most renown and respected eco-certification for many product groups in Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland).

MOSO Bamboo Forest met all the strict requirements regarding healthy component materials, sustainably sourced bamboo, safe & environmentally friendly production, proper waste management, low VOC emissions, and low energy use during consumption.

Nordic Ecolabel certification

Indoor emissions

To maintain a healthy indoor climate, it is essential to use products with very low emissions that comply with the official European E1 norm (EN 717-1). All MOSO® products meet E1 standard. Several MOSO® products even comply with E0, the strictest (unofficially) emission class available. All MOSO® bamboo floors are rated A and A+ in France with respect to emissions of volatile organic compounds or VOCs, reaching the best classification possible!

Carbon footprint

MOSO® has commissioned Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands to conduct an official Life Cyle Assessment (LCA) and carbon footprint study. The report, available upon request, concludes that all assessed MOSO® products (all solid bamboo flooring, decking, panels, and veneer) are CO2 negative over their full life cycle.

CE marking

Through CE (European Conformity) marking, the European Union demands that various product categories comply with the highest quality requirements to protect the safety, health, and environment of consumers. MOSO® flooring products acquired the CE marking many years ago and most recently has taken the lead in developing a CE marking for bamboo flooring specifically.

WUI approved decking and siding

MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® decking and siding boards have been tested and approved for use in Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) zones. The first and only bamboo decking and siding boards can therefore be applied in all regions in the US. Thanks to the unique Thermo-Density® production process, the material is fire resistant without the use of ecologically unfriendly and expensive fire retardants.

Fire safety flooring

According to EN13501-1, fire safety ratings for flooring products are classified from A1fl (non combustible) to Ffl (highly combustible). In order to comply with CE marking, all MOSO® floors were tested for fire safety, meeting classifications Bfl to Dfl. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products performed even better, reaching Bfl-class following EN13501-1 and flame spread index Class A following US standard ASTM E84 without the use of fire retardants.

Fire safety wall/ceiling

According to EN13501-1, fire safety ratings for materials for wall or ceiling applications are classified from A1 (non combustible) to F (highly combustible). MOSO® High Density® materials met fire safety calssification B-s1-d0 for 18mm and thicker. Remarkably, this occurs without impregnation which is impossible with any other wood. Once again, MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products performed even better, earning a flame spread index Class A following US standard ASTM E84 without the use of fire retardants.

Durability class

European Standard EN 350 guides the methods used for determining and classifying the durability of wood and bamboo regarding biological, wood-destroying fungi. The natural durability of wood and bamboo classifications range from 1 (very durable) to 5 (not durable). Using the EN 350 standard, there are two laboratory methods for determining durability: CEN/TS 15083-2 for the application of products in direct ground contact and CEN/TS 15083-1 for the application of products without ground contact.

In both tests MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products achieved the highest durability class attainable (Class 1, very durable), concluding that the products can be applied with or without ground contact. MOSO® Bamboo N-Finity products are currently tested following CEN/TS 15083-1, also meeting the highest durability class (Class 1, very durable), concluding that the product can be used in applications without ground contact.

Use class

European standard EN 335 defines five Use Classes which represent different service situations to which wood and bamboo products can be exposed. EN 335 provides information regarding the presence of biological fungi in the different Use Classes, ranging from 5 (most heavy-duty situation, permanently in salt water) to Class 1 (lightest use situation, interior dry).

MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products meet the highest durability class following CEN/TS 15083-2 and CEN/TS 15083-1 (Class 1, very durable). Our thermally treated and compressed bamboo products can be applied in situations up to Use Class 4 (exterior in ground contact). MOSO® Bamboo N-Finity products also reach the highest durability class following CEN/TS 15083-1. Our impregnated bamboo products can be applied in situations up to Use Class 3 (exterior and above the ground).
