The truly ecological, durable and thermally modified rainscreen siding
MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® rainscreen siding is a solid, High Density® exterior bamboo board, made from thermally modified compressed bamboo strips. A unique thermal modification process called Thermo-Density® provides Bamboo X-treme® with the highest durability class possible in the appropriate EU norms, increases the stability and density, and consequently the hardness. This makes it suitable for very demanding applications.
Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on this planet and is an abundantly available building material. All solid MOSO® Bamboo Products have a negative carbon footprint over the complete life cycle and are therefore the sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood that is becoming scarce.
After installation, facades with Bamboo X-treme® Siding do not require periodic care at all, which results in huge time and cost savings. Bamboo X-treme® Siding withstands temperature changes with hardly any shrinking and swelling. Thanks to the extremely high stability, the boards will stay flat and in place unlike other natural materials. The original characteristics of the material rival the best hardwoods. Just like all hardwoods, bamboo turns gray over time, creating an attractive natural look.
Contrary to other wood products, Bamboo X-treme® earns fire safety Class A (ASTM E84) and Class B-s1-d0 (European norm 13501-1) without impregnating the material with expensive and eco-damaging fire retardants. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® Siding boards have been tested and approved for use in Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) zones. The first and only bamboo siding can therefore be applied in commercial and domestic applications, in all regions in the US.

The use of tropical hardwood is related to deforestation. Whilst tropical hardwood can take up to 80 years before it is ready for harvesting, Moso bamboo stems, which are used for MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® Siding, are mature after only 4-5 years. After harvesting, the bamboo plant does not die and no deforestation takes place. On the contrary, the remaining stems of the mother plant grow even faster and thicker. Like this, the bamboo can be harvested annually and bamboo forestry is sustainable and fair trade for the farmers by default. MOSO® Bamboo Products are the sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood and other less ecologically friendly materials.
