Bamboo X-treme® | Wood deck alternative

The fast growing hardwood alternative

The new generation in decking

Wood decking is very popular thanks to its natural appearance. Solid bamboo decking is an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to wood. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® decks are made of bamboo strips that are thermally treated, compressed, and ultimately shaped into profiled decking boards. This Thermo-Density® process increases stability, ensuring a durable terrace that has the natural look of wood decking.

Bamboo beats wood in stability

Thanks to our Thermo-Density® process that thermally modifies and compresses the bamboo fibers, Bamboo X-treme® is very stable. Compared to the hardest tropical wood, the bamboo wood decking outperforms in stability and can be installed without head side gaps. The head side tongue and groove connection guarantees a straight deck with small, consistent spacing between the decking planks, a striking and revolutionary solution that’s easier and faster to install compared to wood.

Highest durability for bamboo wood

With the Thermo-Density® process, Bamboo X-treme® wood deck achieves the highest durability class within EU norms* for wood. The density of the bamboo is dramatically increased in the production process which makes the decking very hard. Additionally, bamboo has a naturally higher sugar content than wood. With heat treatment, the sugar is removed and this ensures the bamboo is less susceptible to fungi and micro-organisms.

Tropical hardwood alternative

Because Bamboo X-treme® decks are more stable than tropical hardwood decks, the planks  retain their shape, and the X-treme® decks look better than timber decks over time. Similar to wood, Bamboo X-treme® will turn grey when exposed to the weather. This creates a natural and attractive hardwood look-alike. Consisting of at least 90% fast growing bamboo, the material is a bio-based renewable resource. Moso bamboo grows quickly and matures in five years after which it can be harvested and still continue to grow. Contrarily, hardwood trees are very slow growing and die when harvested. Being a grass, bamboo continues to grow through its roots.

Competitors do not offer the same hardness and level of durability, dimensional stability and ecology. With Bamboo X-treme® a full assortment of decking, cladding, fencing and beams is available for landscape architects and garden.

Quick installation of decking

Installing Bamboo X-treme® decking with our unique clips is quick and easy compared to wood decking with screws. The symmetrically shaped planks are reeded on one side and smooth on the other. At the time of installation, you can decide which deck surface you prefer, reeded or smooth. MOSO® clips make the bamboo deck very easy to install. A clip screwed into the sub beams fits neatly in the board’s side-groove, making pre-drilling unnecessary. This saves money and time and aesthetically, produces a a cleaner look without screws.
